GFA Exco hails Black Stars for sterling performance at AFCON 2015

The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association has praised the Black Stars for their impressive performance at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

This was revealed after an Executive Committee meeting held in Accra to review the team’s performance at the tournament which was held in Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8.

The Black Stars exceeded the expectations of many by finishing the tournament as runners up after losing on penalties to Ivory Coast in the final match.

Ghana recovered from a 2-1 defeat to Senegal in their opening game to beat Algeria and South Africa to finish on top of Group A.

Coach Avram Grant’s side went ahead to beat Guinea and hosts Equatorial Guinea 3-0 each in the quarter final and semi final stage respectively before reaching the finals.

The team received lots of plaudits from many football fans and from President John Dramani Mahama.

And the GFA’s Executive Committee in its review of the tournament on Tuesday, congratulated the team for their sterling performance.

“I can confirm to you that the Executive Committee is highly satisfied with the performance of the Black Stars. They exceedingly impressed by the performance of the team at the Africa Cup of Nations.” GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi said at a press conference after the Exco meeting.

“We also congratulate Mr. Avram Grant for the sterling performance with the team despite taking over in a very short time”, he added.
