GFA donates sports equipments to the University of

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), has donated football equipment to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho.

The items, which included footballs, bibs, cones, stopwatches was presented on behalf of the GFA by Dr Prince Pambo, a Sports Physician and a member of the GFA Medical Committee.

The items will help promote physical and recreational activities among students, ensuring that they remain fit for the rigorous academic endeavours that they are undertaking and the prevention of physical inactivity related non communicable diseases.

The items will also serve as a basis for the soon-to-be-introduced programme in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University.

Dr Pambo, who is a part-time lecturer of UHAS and helping to develop curriculum for the Sports Medicine programme and other short certificate programmes, indicated the GFA’s readiness to collaborate with academic institutions in the country to train more experts at various levels within the sports medicine specialty.

Dr Pambo, also the ‘FIFA 11 for Health’ project leader in Ghana, said the donation aligns with the efforts by both the GFA and FIFA to promote physical activity among students as exercise is the best known preventive medicine.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Fred Binka, received the items on behalf of the University community.

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) is one of the youngest and newest public universities in Ghana.

It is the first University dedicated only to issues of Health in the country. It is also the first public university to be established in the Volta Region of Ghana.
