Gargo guides Miners to victory

The six games played on match-day-19 in the OneTouch Premier League has certainly altered the table but the race for the top spot remains unchanged while the bottom ranks sees some shuffling with Great Olympics still propping the rest.

After initial struggles, Mohammed Gargo has finally recorded his first win in the OneTouch Premier League as coach of AshantiGold.

The Miners managed a 2-1 victory over Sekondi Hasaacas at the Len Clay Stadium to go fourth on the table.

Alex Asamoah put AshantiGold in the lead before the 10th minute. But a Frederick Quayeson equalizer in the 20th minute turned the heat on the Miners as the home fans started to boo their game.

Alex Asamoah settled the tie in the 71st minute when he scored the second for the Miners. The defeat see Hasaacas slip into the relegation zone as they occupy the fifteenth position.

At the Tema Park, Real Sportive thwarted Liberty Professionals’ hopes of closing the gap at the top of the table as the Dansoman-based side suffered a 2-1defeat.

Yakubu Issaka put Sportive in the lead but Kofi Nti Boakye drew level in the 25th minute for Liberty.

Real Sportive jumped into the lead again and that was the match winner, this time from the boot of Nuhu Alhassan.

Wa All Stars continued their winning run at the Wa Park with a 1-0 victory over Kessben FC.

A second half goal by Philip Boampong handed the home team a deserved win as they stay sixth on the table.

At the Golden City Park, Berekum Arsenals maintained their home superiority as they pipped Gamba All Blacks 1-0 with a second half goal coming from Abdulai Seidu in the 51st minute.

The Gunners move to third on the table for now as Heart of Lions who do not play until next week.

Zaytuna FC after taking the lead had to fight back to salvage a point off Tema Youth at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra.

Joseph Nafiu put the premiership debutants in the lead in the 27th minute but nine minutes later, Tema Youth drew level through a Bernard Akuffo goal.

Akuffo put Tema Youth in the lead when he doubled up for the Tema-based side in the second half.

However, Shadrack Kyei made sure Zaytuna claimed a share of the spoils when he scored the equalizer in the closing stages of the game.

At the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, the relegation woes of Great Olympics continued as they recorded their 11th league defeat of the season after a 3-0 loss to King Faisal.

Two first half goals from Samad Oppon and Eric Poku seemed to have put the game beyond the Wonder Boys before Bastiti Ibrahim added a third to make it 3-0 in the second half.
