Emmanuel Frimpong's emergence has persuaded Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to not to sign another midfielder.

Frimpong has represented England at Under-16 and Under-18 level but has said in the past that he would rather play for Ghana, the country of his birth.

Wenger planned to bring in another central midfielder before the transfer window shuts at the end of August but after good showing in the weekend's Emirates Cup, the Arsenal manager thinks Frimpong, who is 18 is ready for the big stage.

Frimpong was impressive against experienced internationals Gennaro Gattuso and Clarence Seedorf in Saturday's 1-1 draw with AC Milan.

And he followed it with an assured performance in a their 3-2 victory over Celtic on Sunday that ensured Arsenal retained the Emirates Cup.

Though the player has intimated his interest to play for Ghana, Wenger believes England should make the first move.

"We were considering going into the market for a midfielder but we won't do that now.

"Frimpong is more of a fighter than a dribbler but he is eligible to play for England or Ghana and if I was English I would make sure he doesn't get away."

The 18-year old was born in Ghana but moved to England ten years ago and has said his first option is to represent Ghana.

"I have always said that, no matter what, I will always play for Ghana because at the end of the day, from what I believe, I am a Ghanaian," he said back in February 2010 on the Arsenal website.

"England has done a lot for me and my family but at the end of the day I can't see myself playing for England because I am not English – I am from Ghana."
