Former Ghana defender dies

The football family in Ghana mourns the death former national defender, Patrick Allotey.

The news will come as a shock to many fans who marvelled at his skills while operating from full-back during his playing career.

Allotey, 29, who had been battling with health problems finally passed away Wednesday morning.

The player was part of Ghana's gold winning team at the 1995 FIFA Under-17 World Cup and subsequently featured for the Black Satellites and the senior side, the Black Stars.

After an impressive showing with the Black Starlets during the Under-17 competition hosted by Ecuador, Allotey was signed up by Dutch side, Feyernood Rotterdam in 1996.

He featured for Feyernood for one season before making a switch to Excelsior for another season.

Allotey made a return to Feyernood in 1998 and departed the Dutch club in 2001.
