The 2026 GFA Elite U15 Boys Colts Championship officially got underway on Friday, May 29, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, marking the start of another exciting chapter in Ghana's youth football development agenda.

The opening ceremony was led by Samuel Aboabire, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association and a member of the Executive Council, who performed the ceremonial kickoff to signal the commencement of the competition.

Addressing players, coaches and officials, Aboabire highlighted the importance of the championship, which is being staged for the third time under FIFA's Talent Development Scheme.

"This championship has become one of the most important platforms for identifying and nurturing young football talents in Ghana. We have already seen players from previous editions progress into the national U15 and U17 teams, which shows the impact of this initiative," he said.

He further urged the young players to make the most of the opportunity and showcase their abilities.

"The future of Ghana football is on display here. I encourage every player to give their best, remain disciplined and embrace the learning experience. Competitions like this are designed to prepare you for higher levels of the game," he added.

The championship brings together regional U15 teams and elite academies from across the country, providing a unique platform for young talents to compete at a high level while attracting the attention of national team scouts and technical experts.

The opening ceremony was attended by several key stakeholders and prominent figures within Ghana football, underlining the growing significance of the competition in the country's player development structure.

The tournament will run until June 3, 2026, with participating teams competing for honours while seeking to establish themselves as the next generation of stars for Ghana football.
