FA signs Glo to Black Stars

Glo Mobile Ghana, operators of Glo has become a sponsor of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.

The $9 million deal for a five-year period that hands Glo, the tag as official telecommunication sponsor was signed by the Ghana Football Association today.

Under the contract, which breaks down to $1.8 million per year, $300,000 would constitute products of the telecommunication sponsor.

Glo Mobile Ghana, which is yet to roll out its mobile services, Glo, in the country takes over the official telecommunication sponsor’s tag of the Black Stars following the expiration of the existing deal with MTN.

Glo joins a list of sponsors who are associated with the Black Stars, including Gold Fields Ghana, Puma, Guinness Ghana and Continental Commodities Trading Company.

The new deal with Glo, Ghana’s sixth mobile operator comes after the Ghana Football Association announced a five-year sponsorship deal worth $15 million with new the telecommunication company as title sponsor for the premier league in December 2008.
