The Ghana Football Association has tasked new Black Stars coach Goran Stevanovic to ensure successive African Nations Cup qualification as the Serbian sets himself the target of a Cup success.

Stevanovic today pledged to deliver Ghana's first Nations Cup trophy since 1982 as he was formally unveiled in Accra.

It's almost 30 years since Ghana won the continental trophy after coming close to lifting the title in her last appearance [2010 Nations Cup in Angola] when the Black Stars lost in the finals to Egypt.

However, for the FA, the top priority is to first secure qualification before the quest of winning the trophy after signing Stevanovic on to a two-year renewable deal on Monday.

"The terms to which the contract of the coach [Stevanovic] will gain extension of service or contract is that if only he is able to help the Black Stars to qualify for the African Nations Cup in 2012 and 2013.

"And if he is not able to reach to our expectations we will decide what to do either for him to stay or to leave," FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi told the press on Wednesday.

The Serb, 44, says he has what it takes to make the Black Stars champions.

"Ghana reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup, and the finals of the last African Cup, and a repeat of what has already been done is not enough.

“It’s been many years since Ghana won the African Cup. But it’s time for trophies. it’s time to be first again, it’s been a while,” Stevanovic said.

The Serb officially starts his new post on February 1.
