President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi has been nominated as a candidate for the position of member of the Executive Committee of CAF.

Members on the Executive Committee of the GFA at its meeting on July 8, 2010 unanimously agreed to back the nomination of Kwesi Nyantakyi for the position during the continent’s governing body’s elections in February, 2011.

According to a statement by the FA, the said nomination has been communicated to the General Secretariat of CAF as stated by CAF Statutes in Article 18 (3) which requires the submission of names of candidates at least 90 days before the date of the General Assembly.

“The Executive Committee further noted with satisfaction that the Ghana Football Association has made considerable and admirable contributions to the development of football in Africa and deserves to be represented at the Executive Committee of CAF by no less a person than its President, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi,” portions of the FA’s statement read.

“The nomination of Mr. Nyantakyi has since received the support and backing of the Government of Ghana.”
