Footballers plying their trade in the domestic leagues across the continent will have the opportunity to represent their national teams in a major tournament as CAF fashions out a new competition exclusively for them.

The new competition which was this week approved by the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football will be devoid of any foreign-based players.

According to CAF, only players participating in the local leagues can gain selection and would be eligible for the competition.

The continent’s soccer governing body has already put in place a working committee to implement the national competition.
