King Faisal player, Kweku Essien ends the season on a high note after he was named the premiership’s Best Player in Accra on Saturday during the Premier League Awards event.

The attacking midfielder was rewarded for a series of outstanding performances in the premier league that helped King Faisal avoid the drop.

Essien, who in the course of the season picked up the man-of-the-match awards on ten occasions beat off competition from Alhaji Sanni of AshantiGold and Liberty Professionals’ Kwadwo Asamoah to win the VW Gol salon car prize for the Best Player of the season award.

He joins former Asante Kotoko captain, Issah Ahmed as the second recipient in taking the Best Player of the season award.

The public contributed 40% while the select committee had 60% of the power in determining the award of the Best Player of the season award and other awards.

Heart of Lions coach, Hans Van Der Plyum after guiding his side to fourth place on the standings snatched the Coach of the season award from the top two manager’s Mitko Dobrev Kostadinovic who guided Accra Hearts of Oak to the league title and David Duncan of AshantiGold.

Referee Mercy Tagoe picked the premierships Referee of the season award ahead of two male nominees.

A special award dubbed the GFA President’s Special Award was handed Alhaji Sanni, Ekow Benson and Emmanuel Clottey to encourage them continue with their impressive performances in their premiership debut.

Out of the 14 award categories, eight were decided by public voting through SMS messages, whilst the remaining six were determined by the expertise of the selected special committee.
