Essien, Muntari named in Best XI

Ghana has contributed more than one player to the selected the Best XI players of the 2008 African Cup of Nations.

Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari were named in the Best XI team selected by CAF’s Technical Study Group (TSG) after their study of the tournament matches.

Both players were central to Ghana’s winning of bronze at the Nations Cup.

Ghana’s regular goalkeeper, Richard Kingson was named among the seven-man reserve team for the Best XI squad.

Hosts, Ghana together with winners, Egypt and losing finalist, Cameroon are the only sides to have more than one player in the Best XI for the tournament.

Essam El Hadary (Egypt), Geremi Njitap (Cameroon), Wael Gomaa (Egypt), Michael Essien (Ghana), Sulley Muntari (Ghana), Yaya Touré (Cote d’Ivoire), Alexandre Song (Cameroon), Hosny Abd Rabou (Egypt), Mohamed Aboutreika (Egypt), Amr Zaky (Egypt) and Manucho (Angola)
