Essien inches closer to best player gong

Ghana midfielder, Michael Essien has for the second successive time made it into the final shortlist of three for the Africa Best Player Award.

Essien, who missed out narrowly for the 2006 award is joined by Ivory Coast striker, Didier Drogba, who is the reigning GLO-CAF Player of the Year and Frederic Kanoute of Mali as the trio stay in contention for the 2007 Glo-CAF African Best Player Award.

Both Michael Essien and his Chelsea teammate Drogba are making the their second successive appearance at the awards while this is the first time Kanoute is making the final shortlist

The final three was announced at a press conference in Lome, the capital of Togo by organizers of the event, Globacom and CAF.

National coaches from all 53 national associations affiliated to CAF voted in the selection process that narrowed the five-man list to three.

The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony to be held in Togo on February 1, 2008.
