Ghana's Michael Essien found the back of the net twice to help Chelsea to a 3-1 win over West Ham on Saturday.

The win kept the Blues' 100 per cent start to the new season intact as they sit at the top of the Barclays Premier League after four games.

Both of the Ghana international's goals was with the head as Ivorian Salomon Kalou also scored for Chelsea.

Essien rose above two defenders to head home Didier Drogba's cross in the second minute before an attempted clearance West Ham's goalkeeper Robert Green cannoned back off Kalou into goal in the 17th minute.

Chelsea made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute when Essien headed home his second from Paulo Ferreira's cross but moments later they conceded their first goal of the season when Scott Parker calmly lobbed Cech from 20 yards.
