Michael Essien says he is remaining patient despite his recovery from injury having taken much longer than expected.

The Ghana and Chelsea player is not setting any date for his return as he responded to queries in his latest blog.

Essien has not played since injuring his knee in training while on international duty with Ghana at the African Nations Cup.

With the season nearing its final stages ahead of the start of the the 2010 World Cup, the midfieder has chosen to stick to his rehabilitation after an initial setback.

“I was hoping to be available for the home game against Inter, but the healing has taken a bit longer because my knee kept swelling,” Essien said.

“In two weeks I ended up having four lots of surgery to try and get the fluid away from the area.

“Finally it seems to be okay and I am making progress. I know I just have to be patient and give it time to settle down and heal.”
