Elmina Sharks in comeback win against AshantiGold

Elmina Sharks fought back to beat AshantiGold 2-1 on match day 22 of the Ghana Premier League at the Nduom stadium in Elmina on Sunday.

Elmina Sharks only returned to the Nduom Sports Complex after serving a temporary home ban.

David Abagna scored the opener for AshantiGold in the 50th minute – his 7th of the season to put them in the driving seat.

Captain Ishmael Hammond who returned to the starting line-up after missing the 2-1 loss to Aduana FC restored parity for the home side in the 69th minute as he headed home Suraj Ibrahim’s cross.

Substitute Kingsley Braye completed the comeback for Elmina Sharks in the 77th minute after receiving a pass from John Nyamekye to slot home.

Elmina Sharks thus ends AshantiGold’s flying start to the second round of the League – following a five game unbeaten run.

Stop gap coach Sam Addo made some changes to the squad and paid off for Elmina Sharks. Baba Sule and Daniel Nii Adjei came in for John Nyamekye and Isaac Donkor respectively.

For AshantiGold, David Abagna and Stephen Nyarko were handed starting places.

The two teams tried to create opportunities to score but none could break the deadlock before the halftime whistle.

AshantiGold have dropped to 9th place in the League standings with 30 points – one point above Elmina Sharks who sit in 11th place.
