The Eastern Regional Football Association (ERFA) has successfully held its 2025 Ordinary Congress in Koforidua, gathering key football stakeholders at the New Juabeng Municipal Library on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

The session brought together club executives, coaches, referees, and football administrators to reflect on the past season and outline development plans aimed at strengthening football across the region.

The Congress was attended by Daasebre Adu-Asare, Regional Football Associations Coordinator at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), who represented GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.

In his address, Daasebre Adu-Asare applauded the ERFA for its strong leadership and commitment to grassroots football development, assuring members of the GFA’s continued support through funding, technical assistance, and capacity-building initiatives. He emphasized that the GFA remains focused on empowering RFAs to drive national football growth from the base.

Delegates were updated on new development interventions rolled out by the GFA, including the introduction of the KGL-backed U-17 Championships, mandatory use of NHIS cards as player identification, and monthly subventions to regional associations.

The GFA also announced a logistics package for juvenile competitions—comprising jerseys, footballs, and GHS 10,000 support for each participating region—alongside similar benefits for Women’s Division One champions. Additionally, GH₵300,000 has been allocated by the GFA to support referee payments across all RFAs.

Another notable announcement at the Congress was the rollout of a US$200,000 FIFA Forward investment earmarked for the supply of footballs to Division Two, Division Three, Women’s Division One, and Colts clubs nationwide. Delegates also received updates on ongoing infrastructure improvements at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, including new training pitches, a modern gym, and expanded accommodation facilities, all funded through FIFA’s support system.

The Congress further highlighted the GFA’s commitment to referee and coaching development. Through its transformative “Catch Them Young” refereeing project, over 2,500 young referees have been trained across the country. The Association also confirmed that more than 750 coaches have earned CAF D to B licenses over the past year, reinforcing the drive to enhance technical expertise at the grassroots level.

ERFA Chairman, Linford Boadu Asamoah, expressed gratitude to member clubs and the GFA leadership for their continuous support and dedication to regional football development. “The Eastern Region remains a proud pillar of Ghanaian football. This Congress reinforces our shared commitment to building strong foundations, empowering youth, and ensuring that football continues to be a force for hope, opportunity, and progress,” he noted.

The 2025 ERFA Ordinary Congress ended on a positive and unified note, setting the stage for a competitive and development-focused 2025/2026 season. With renewed commitments, enhanced support systems, and strategic development initiatives, stakeholders expressed confidence in a bright future for Eastern Region football.
