DOL kicks off with mixed results

The campaign to reach the premier league started over the weekend with five zones comprising forty-two teams playing the opening day matches of the PolyTank Division One League.

With the exception of Zone 3B which is made up of ten teams all the others played on the opening weekend.

Mixed results were recorded as the opening day results show a close contest in the five zones which kicked into action.

In Zone 1A, there were wins for Upper Stars, Juventus and Guan United while Savana Stars and Unity FC shared the spoils.

Former elite campaigners, Bofoakwa Tano and B.A United claimed victories in Zone 1B. Two other games in the same group, the matches involving Bechem FC and Berlin FC and that of Rover Stars and Kintampo United ended in stalemates.

Match action in Zone 2A saw Cornerstone, Westham and New Edubiase FC all securing wins while Gold Stars and Kaaseman drew goalless.

Coconut Grove thrashed Westlandes 3-0 in Zone 2B to kick off a good start while Metro Stars posted a 1-0 win over Feyenoord Academy. Two other games ended in stalemates.

Three (Nania FC, Great Mariners, Mighty Jets) of the four clubs who made a return to the division one ranks after serving suspensions in 2007 were in action over the weekend.

The four (Nania FC, Great Mariners, Mighty Jets and Okwawu United) clubs were handed the suspensions after being found guilty by the FA’s Disciplinary committee for engaging in non-competitive games on the last day of the Division One league campaign for promotion to the elite ranks.

Great Mariners and Nania FC were both held to draws but Mighty Jets posted a 1-0 win over Midtjiland. Soccer Learners were the biggest winners in the group with a 4-2 win over Purejoy.
