Ghana striker Emmanuel Clottey has issued an apology to fans of the national side following their poor form at the African Nations Championship.

The local Black Stars, making their second appearance at the competition designed by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) for Africa-based players have failed to put in any descent performance.

And the side coached by Herbert Addo slumped to their second loss yesterday, with 1-0 defeat to Zimbabwe.

Certainly, qualification is not within their hands anymore amid much expectation prior to the start of the competition in Sudan.

"We apologise for our bad performance, we did not expect to play like this, we don't know what happened" said a somber looking Clottey.

Their poor run of form could put paid to their chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals as Ghana must now win their final game by a healthy margin against Niger and hope Zimbabwe lose to South Africa in the final round of group matches.

But Clottey believes they have one final chance to right the wrongs.

"We want to correct out mistakes and we have one more chance to do that," he said.

Group winners and runners-up qualify for the quarter-finals in the 16-nation competition.
