Building the capacities of persons involved in football is crucial to sustaining and improving the game's development, says Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association.

Ghana on Monday opened the start of the four-day regional seminar for General Secretaries and Technical Directors from the continent.

Kwesi Nyantakyi commended FIFA for its commitment to building capacities of National Associations on the continent.

"Apart from the recognition for the two key personnel of our National Associations, FIFA also recognises that regular training for personnel at the National Association is a condition precedent for good performance. An organization that does not offer training opportunity to its staff will leave in its trail, staff with outmoded and technological bankrupt skill stock."

President of the Ghana Football Association explained that General Secretaries and Technical Directors are very crucial in the running and development of every Football Association.

"These supports have transformed many Football Associations into viable institutions capable of making strong and lasting impressions on development of football in their respective countries. This seminar is another right step taken by FIFA in furtherance of its policy of building capacities at African Football Associations," the GFA President said.

"General Secretaries head the day to day administration set-ups of our National Associations. It is therefore imperative they are equipped with the requisite skills to discharge their functions efficiently. The success or otherwise of a National Association depends to a large extent on their competency of its General Secretary. The same can be said of Technical Directors. The business of football revolves around the expertise of a Technical Director.

"He coordinates the work of the National Association in Coaching, Refereeing, Sports Medicine and Administration and Planning. The two, General Secretary and Technical Director are therefore the fulcrum around which football activity in the National Association revolves."

The course, a joint partnership between FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is aimed at discussing modern managerial skills of the General Secretaries as well as refresh the technical abilities of the Technical Directors.
