CAN 2008 draw in October

Ghana and the remaining fifteen yet to qualify nations for the 2008 African Cup of Nations would know their group opponents for Africa’s biggest sporting event later in October.

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football at it’s meeting on Tuesday chaired by CAF president, Issa Hayatou confirmed October, 20th as the date for the drawing of lots for the competition to be hosted by Ghana.

By virtue of being host of the prestigious football tournament, Ghana are not taking part in the on-going qualifying campaign.

However, all the sixteen nations would be entered into draw for the four groups with each group accomodating four teams.

The CAF Executive Committee after perusing the report submitted by the inspection team headed by Slim Aloulou who were in Ghana last month also expressed its satisfaction with the state of construction works at the Ghana’s four match venues for the competition.

The CAF team completed their seventh inspection tour of Ghana ahead of next year’s football competition involving sixteen African nations.

Ghana has four cities -Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale to host the 26th edition of the African Cup of Nations beginning January 20 to February 10.
