The first group of participants in the CAF African Schools Football Championship Young Reporter Programme have arrived in CANAL+ office in Paris to participate in the internship programme.
Ruth Naa Amanoa Asamoah (25), Belinda Nketia (24), Andrews Sefa Bamfo (23), Emmanuel Andam (25) are the four aspiring journalists selected from a series of practicals overseen by CAF, Canal + and seasoned sports journalists during the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals held in April this year.
The four arrived in Paris, France on Monday 8 December for the five day programme set to conclude on 12 December.
The week long programme will see the young Ghanaians receive mentorship and practical experience through editorial immersion at the CANAL+ headquarters.
This landmark initiative activates the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between CAF and CANAL+ earlier this year, focused on youth empowerment through football and media development.
As part of the programme, the four will be integrated into Canal+ live sports productions, content creation and mentorship, offering first-hand experience in sports journalism.
“This programme is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to preparing young Africans to play impactful roles in football — not only on the field, but also as media professionals, storytellers, and leaders,” said Sarah Mukuna, CAF Director of Member Associations.
“These four young reporters exemplify the potential and creativity that define our continent, and CAF is proud to accompany them on their professional journey.”
Grace Loubassou, Director of Institutional Relations – Africa at CANAL+, added:
“We are honoured to welcome these young African talents to Paris to learn from our experienced journalists. African football deserves exceptional coverage that matches its passion and global following. We thank CAF for their trust and partnership in developing future generations of sports media professionals.”
Sport remains an integral part of the CANAL+ Group’s identity, which continues to expand across Africa, particularly within English-speaking markets. With operations in over 47 countries, CANAL+ remains deeply committed to long-term investment in sports, media, and audiovisual professions across the continent.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship Young Reporters Programme, along with other concurrently run Youth Development programmes form a core component of CAF’s broader strategy to create meaningful opportunities for young Africans through football and education.
