Ghana’s Police Ladies put up a spirited performance but fell short in their semi-final clash against hosts Asec Mimosas, losing 4–1 in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers on Tuesday in Yamoussoukro.
Asec Mimosas broke the deadlock in the 44th minute through Diallo Prisca Ami, giving the Ivorians a slim advantage at the break.
Marie Denise doubled their lead in the 47th minute and Habibou Ouedraogo restored Asec’s cushion in the 54th minute.
Police Ladies came out stronger and nearly stunned the home crowd when Sarah Nyarko struck in the 56th minute to pull one back, momentarily reigniting Ghanaian hopes of reaching the final.
The hosts sealed the victory in the 68th minute when N’Da Akissi Nadège N’Guessan converted from the penalty spot.
Despite the defeat, Police Ladies demonstrated resilience and character, especially in the second-half battle, but ultimately could not match the clinical finishing of their opponents.
The Ghanaian champions will now turn their attention to the third-place playoff, where they face Burkina Faso’s USFA, with hopes of finishing the competition on a high and securing a podium place.
