Africa is extremely unlikely to accept Europe’s request for the rescheduling of the African Cup of Nations from the January-February calendar to their proposed summer date.

Europe’s request is been fuelled by the issue of player call ups in the middle of their leagues, a situation which is impacting greatly to the leagues in England and France, especially.

It is a debate that never seems to stop with the occasional tirades been traded between clubs, administrators, coaches and the national sides, the organizers of the tournament, the Confederation of African Football – CAF, has received massive endorsement from pollsters on the official website of the Ghana Football Association.

A poll conducted by www.ghanafa.org had a total voter response of 1140 with the majority of pollsters backing CAF to stick to the January-February calendar when asked: “Should CAF change the African Cup of Nations date as Europe demands?”

Some 672 votes representing 59% of vote cast answered No, that is a sign of approval to CAF's present schedule while 41% been a total of 468 votes went to people who favoured a change.

Ofcourse, there would be winners and losers over this issue as over a decade ago, the English premiership had less than 10 players called up to feature in the Cup of Nations. But this year, not less than 30 players are joining up with their countries for the tournament to be hosted by Ghana.

However, as the quality of stars from Africa continues to improve; players from the continent are always been chased for their signatures and they in turn give their clubs the quality needed.

The 2008 African Cup of Nations, the continent’s flagship sporting event would get underway in Ghana beginning January 20 and run till February 10.
