Asamoah Gyan is in contention of a starting place in Claude Le Roy's team for Sunday's African Cup of Nations opener despite being sent-off in his last competitive game for the Black Stars.

The Confederation of African Football - CAF, today said the striker is eligible to feature in the competition when Ghana plays Guinea in the opening game at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra.

Gyan was shown a red card against Brazil in Dortmund in the second round of the World Cup finals 18 months ago.

And since that incident, the Ghana have not played a competitive match, skipping the qualification campaign for the Nations Cup finals as the host country.

CAF says it has received no notification from world governing body FIFA over any suspension.
