Derek Boateng will play no part in Ghana’s 2010 World Cup double-header in June due to a shoulder injury picked up while playing for club, FC Koln in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The technical team of the Black Stars today confirmed Boateng’s absence from the squad.

Ghana plays two away matches against Mali and Sudan next month as the World Cup qualifying campaign returns on the continent.

Before the two important qualifying matches, the Black Stars will test their strengths in an international friendly against Uganda in Tamale on May 31.

The midfielder was named in Ghana’s 32-man squad announced last week for the three games but would now have to wait for subsequent assignments after almost three years out of the national team.

A club statement says Boateng will be fit again at the end of June after he had undergone a successful operation the same day on the shoulder.

Boateng went off injured during the final day of the German Bundesliga against Bochum.
