Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has rendered an apology to Michael Ballack for the unfortunate challenge which ended the Germans World Cup hopes.

Ballack, Germany captain has been ruled out of the tournament after Boateng's attempted tackle left him with an ankle injury during Saturday's FA Cup final between Portsmouth and Chelsea.

Boateng, yet to be capped for Ghana says he has offered his apologies to Ballack a number of times.

The 23 year-old player is expected to be available should he make the Black Stars final squad when they play Germany in the final group D game at the Johannesburg's Soccer City stadium at the World Cup.

"All I can do is apologise," Boateng told Sport Bild magazine. "I was just too late and I hit him straight on.

"It looked stupid. I apologised to him twice on the field and now for a third time. I am sorry. It was not intentional."
