Siblings normally leave behind their Club affiliations to share one national dream. But that hasn't been the case for the Boateng brothers in the last two finals of the World Cup.

Raised together in the German capital, Berlin, they advanced through the youth and amateur ranks at Hertha BSC but have gone separate ways after their time in Berlin.

Born to a Ghanaian father, they split up to play for different national sides, with Kevin-Prince opting for Ghana while Jerome stuck with the German team.

After crossing swords four years ago at the World Cup finals in South Africa, where the brothers faced each other, the first at a World Cup, they will line up on opposite sides again on Saturday when Ghana comes up against Germany in Fortaleza.

Both brothers have promised to give each other a good game as they did at the 2010 World Cup.

“I’m really looking forward to the match and the fact that both Boateng brothers will be on the same pitch,” said Kevin-Prince.

It is a unique experience at the international level for siblings to face each other but it is one Jerome wants to savour.

“Of course, it’s a special experience to face your own brother at the World Cup and it's not the first time either. There's always a lot of excitement surrounding a World Cup, but this will be a particularly special moment for us both,” added Jerome.

For their family, picking their choice of colours to wear on the match day will remain a difficult task but their supreme interest will be on how their wards perform.

“Ultimately, it’s not important for our parents who wins. What counts for them is that we give our absolute best, remain injury-free and look back on our own personal performances with nothing but satisfaction,” Kevin-Prince said.
