Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is confident the Black Stars will pull through a difficult group fixture at the World Cup in Brazil.

The Black Stars have former World champions Germany, who are tipped to win Group G, Portugal and the United States to contend for the other qualifying spot.

Having reached the round of 16 in their World Cup debut in 2006 in Germany and landing a last eight finish four years ago in South Africa, the expectation is high amid a rather tough group.

Gyan, who has played at both previous finals is adamant that the high stakes will lead to Ghana raising their game.

"The thing about Ghana all the time is that whenever we play against a big team, we perform," said Gyan.

"That is what happened with us when we were going to the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.

"And that is what happened with the Egypt (World Cup play-off) game where everyone got involved.

"And I believe it will happen again at this World Cup."
