Black Stars technical team to go on UK tour

Black Stars technical team will undertake an observation tour of the United Kingdom and share experiences with Liverpool and League Managers Association (LMA).

The team will leave for the tour, supported by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Headline Sponsor of the senior national football team and its business partners, Tullow Ghana Limited (TGL) and Standard Chartered Bank on Friday and return on 31st March 2014.

Head Coach, James Kwasi Appiah, will be accompanied on the trip by his assistant, Maxwell Konadu, Goalkeepers’ Coach, Nassam Yakubu, Team Doctor Adam Baba and Video Analyst, Michael Okyere.

The delegation will spend time with the LMA at St. George’s Park, the national training center for England, to share ideas with some of the leading coaches in England.

The Head Coach and Goalkeeper Trainer, will, additionally, spend time with Liverpool Football Club (LFC), to observe the team’s preparations for matches.

Mr Alex Mould, Chief Executive of GNPC, who facilitated the programme, stated: “GNPC is excited at the opportunity for our Black Stars’ technical team to shape up in the UK especially at this time that the English Premier League has become a thriller. We are hopeful that this tour will go a long way in helping Kwasi Appiah and his team in readiness for the World Cup.”

“We are grateful to our partners, for agreeing to support the Black Stars in this technical build-up,” Mr. Mould added.

“This is a great opportunity for our technical team to visit Liverpool, one of the best clubs in the world, to observe how they prepare their team towards matches,” Ghana Football Association (GFA), President Kwesi Nyantakyi said.

“We are grateful to GNPC and their partners for giving the technical team of the Black Stars the chance to observe some of the best methods of preparing for matches by the visit to LMA and LFC.

“This will positively impact on the Black Stars and will go a long way in helping the team bring glory to the country,” the GFA President added.

The tour of the technical team is in fulfilment of an assurance given by the Headline Sponsor to the GFA management in November 2013, to help build the capacity of the team ahead of the World Cup.
