Ghana's U20 side are keen on becoming world champions again three years after winning the Fifa U-20 World Cup.

The Black Satellites won a hat-trick of titles including the U-20 Africa and World Cups both in 2009 but failed to reproduce the same feat last year when they even failed to qualify for the World stage.

Orlando Wellington's side have been camping ahead of the start of the qualifiers for the 2013 Africa Youth Championship with the hope of rediscovering the same form shown by the generation of players in 2009.

The team's build up will include their participation in a high-profile friendly tournament in South Africa later this year which will also include tough South American giants Brazil and Argentina.

Chairman of the Black Satellites' management member George Afriyie believes the move by the Ghana Football Association to get them to play in high profile friendlies will put the team a good stead.

"We are putting together a comprehensive plan to ensure that what happened to the [Black] Satellites last year doesn't happen again," George Afriyie told Ghana Football, the official newspaper of the GFA.

"The first step is to give the Satellites the chance to play tough opponents and give them the adequate preparation needed to ensure that they qualify for the World Cup and excel.

"The tournament in South Africa will give the players the chance to face tough opponents like Brazil, Argentina, Nigeria and Japan who are tough customers as far as youth football in concerned.

"This is the first step by the GFA and very soon we will be unveiling our comprehensive plans for the future."
