Match-day-2 of the off-season competition, the Top-4 throws up the renewal of the fierce rivalry between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
But first, organisers of the Top-4 competition, Ghana’s lucrative off-season soccer tournament for the premiership’s top four sides has rescheduled one game to Saturday.
The match-day-2 fixture involving Berekum Arsenals and Heart of Lions has been brought forward by a day from the originally scheduled Sunday but the venue, the Coronation Park in Sunyani remains unchanged.
According to the Ghana League Clubs Association – GHALCA, organisers of the event, a request to rather have the women’s Olympic qualifying match between Ghana and DR Congo played at the same match venue brought forward to Saturday had been turned down by competition organisers, FIFA.
By the decision, Heart of Lions who currently lead the race in the 1.4 billion cedi competition would be away to the Gunners in match which could go either way.
A win for Lions will see them consolidate their grip on the stop while defeat will change the standings on the four-club table.
However the rivalry between the country’s two biggest sides Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko tops the bill this weekend in the competition.
Hearts and Kotoko meet in the other match-day-2 game at the Robert Mensah stadium in Cape Coast on Sunday in a game which revives a long-standing rivalry between the two clubs.
For Kotoko the clash offers the chance to settle a score after losing a league double to their archrivals and also surrendering the league title to their opponents for Sunday.
And incidentally, the venue is the same match centre where the Phobians handed them two successive league defeats within a fourteen day period in the domestic championship.
But the new champions are bent on maintaining their supremacy over the Porcupine Warriors.
The Top-4 competition is played among the first four clubs of the premier league at the end of every soccer season.
Accra Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kpando Heart of Lions all past winners and Berekum Arsenals are competing for honours in the 1.4 billion cedi competition.
