Eric Bekoe has revealed his pride after scoring his first goal in a Black Stars shirt with the opening goal against Togo on Sunday.

Bekoe, registered his first goal in his fourth game for Ghana with a 30th minute goal from the spot kick in the first leg game of the first round fixture of the African Nations Championship qualifier.

Ghana went on to beat Togo 2-0 at the Ohene Djan Stadium with the second goal arriving in the second half through John Boye.

It was the fourth game in a row for the Asante Kotoko striker in a Ghana and it ends his run of lack of goals.

“I was relieved that it came finally. The pressure was beginning to get to me, but now that the first one has gone in, I hope many more will come,” he told KickOffGhana.com.

The player who has scored twelve goals in the domestic league so far in Asante Kotoko’s fifteen games says he won’t be distracted by criticisms directed in his way for his failure to score more than a goal for the national team.

“I missed a glorious chance to score a second but I won’t bury myself over that. Even the best strikers in the world miss chances. The most important thing is that I worked hard for the team and that I will continue to work hard towards finishing chances that come.”

Eric Bekoe wants to stay focused and listen to Claude Le Roy as he hope to force his way into Ghana’s squad for World Cup qualifiers later next month.

“Coach Claude Le Roy said it was the best game I had played in a Ghana shirt and that matters a lot,” he says.
