Asante Kotoko snatched victory late-on to prevent another FA Cup setback, as they beat Inter Allies 2-1 in an enthralling encounter at the Accra Stadium on Sunday.

After two final Cup defeats in the last three seasons, the Porcupine Warriors this time lifted the silverware, their 8th to complete a domestic double in extra-time.

Captain Seidu Bancey brought enormous relief to their fans and stand-in coach Michael Osei, who directed affairs int he absence of Didi Dramani as he scored in the 117th minute.

Richard Mpong put Kotoko in the lead after 7 minutes, when he rifled in a shot from inside the box beyond Inter Allies goalkeeper Osei Kwame.

Ktoko held onto their slim lead as their fans cheered them on until the blast of the halftime whistle.

After recess, the premiership debutants lifted their game and managed to push Kotoko back.

A couple of changes by Herbert Addo turned the game in their favour as Senegalese striker Talla Ndiaye gave Addo’s men the equaliser 13 minutes into the restart of the game.

With a new-found vigour, Inter Allies continued to mount the pressure as Kotoko gradually warmed themselves back into the game.

Full-time came and went. As the first 15 minutes of extra-time started, either side tried to jump in front but were unsuccessful.

However, during the second half of extra-time, Kotoko seemed on the ascendency with Inter Allies retreating and allowing the Reds to pile the pressure.

Bancey found space and was put through by Jordan Opoku as he let go a shot into the back of the net with three minutes remaining.

And his goal brought Kotoko the silverware, their first since 2001.
