Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew says that the Black Stars' win over the United States in the round of 16 clash last night was a victory for the entire African continent.

The Black Stars beat the Americans 2-1 after extra-time with the game at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium ending 1-1 in normal time.

Asamoah Gyan scored the winning goal three minutes into the start of extra time after Kevin-Prince Boateng had put Ghana ahead only to see Landon Donovan draw the US level from a spot kick.

Andre, who became the second Ghana player after Gyan to go home with the Budweiser Man of the Match accolade at the World Cup says the win was to make the entire continent proud as the Black Stars are still the only team from Africa in the competition.

"We were disappointed there was no African team with us. We need to make the whole continent proud and we feel we have the whole continent behind us and that gives us energy," Andre said.

The Black Stars will now take on Uruguay in the quarter-finals and Andre insists they will fight to the end.

"We had to fight to the last second and we gave our all. We fought for the continent and for Ghana. We hope the whole African nation is proud. Everything is possible.

"We are very tired but we have five days rest and will focus for the next game against Uruguay. They have great strikers but if God is behind us anything is possible.”
