Asamoah Gyan is hopeful of making an impact with Al-Ain as he accepts the challenge of switching premiership football for the game in the Middle East.

The Ghana striker completed his season-long loan on Saturday from Sunderland to Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates, saying he would “deliver here, I’m very sure about that” as he aims for a fresh start.

“I’m really, really happy to be here, at an important club like Al Ain,” Gyan said at a news conference, adding that he came to the Persian Gulf emirate “for the challenge and the experience of the place.”

Though his move has left former boss, Steve Bruce baffled, Gyan said he needed “a change in environment.”

“I’ve played in Europe for a while and I’m here to see how is the Asian league,” Gyan said. “Hopefully, I will help the team win some cups and then see where my future lies.”

Gyan will wear his favourite number 3 shirt.
