Asamoah Gyan scored from a penalty kick to help Al Ain take a firm grip of the top position in the Etisalat Pro League.

Al Ain beat Al Ahli 1-0 in a late game on Friday night.

Gyan earned his team the penalty when his flick hit the hand of an opponent in the box.

The Ghanaian, who had been unlucky from the spot for the Black Stars prior to his temporal break from international football sent Ahli goalkeeper Yousef Abdullah the wrong way to score in the 56th minute.

Gyan's match winner extended Al Ain's lead to seven points after Al Nasr lost earlier in the evening to Dubai.
