Arko tops goal chart in Egyptian league

Ghana international Ernest Papa Arko has completed the Egyptian Premier League as the top scorer for the 2008/2009 season with El-Gaish.

Arko who has earned a call up into the Black Stars for Ghana’s double 2010 World Cup qualifier, with Mali and Sudan next month after his exceptional scoring form finished the season which came to an end last Thursday with 12 goals.

The El-Gaish striker failed to score in their last match on Wednesday as they lost 3-1 at the Cairo International Stadium against Al Ahly.

But the 28-year-old Ghanaian international beat off competition from Ahly's Flavio Amado and Ahmed Gaafar of Telecom Egypt who finished joint second with 11 goals in the regular season.

Al Ahly won a fifth successive Egyptian premier league title by beating Ismaili 1-0 in a play-off for the title in Cairo on Sunday with Flavio scoring the winner.

El-Gaish after initial struggles with relegation in the first round of the league finished seventh on the table.

Arko is part of Milovan Rajevac’s selected 32 players for Ghana’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
