Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has requested that Turkish club Fenerbahce talk to the European clubs who are interested in signing him.

Several European sides including West Ham United, Schalke and Celtic have expressed interest in signing the midfielder.

However, the Turkish champions are reported to have turned down the offers for the former Juventus star, to the dismay of the player.

The 26-year-old's absence on the first day of Fenerbahce's training camp in Austria prompted fears of a protest, but Appiah says he will use the right channels to make his point.

"I am a gentleman and will not sabotage the team to make my views known," Appiah told BBC Sport.

"If West Ham United have a strong interest in me then I think it is only fair that Fenerbahce listen to their offer and all the other offers on the table for me.

"My wife and kids still live in Italy, but I am keen for my children to have an English education, therefore I would prefer a move to the Premiership.

"I know the fans in Turkey don't want me to leave, but they understand I have served Fenerbahce with all my heart, even played through injury to help the club win the title.

"It is only fair that having served them with all my heart they should consider my interests.

"I understand I have a contract with this great Turkish club, but I want my future to be sorted out soon so that I can make plans for my kids."

West Ham United are believed to be leading the chase for Appiah following the departures of Yossi Benayoun and Nigel Reo Coker from their midfield.

However, Uefa Champions League campaigners Celtic and Schalke are also keen on snapping up the midfielder.
