Kwesi Appiah says Ghana gave everything in their 2-2 draw with Germany to give the 800th match in the World Cup's history a fitting tribute.

The two teams produced a captivating performance in Fortaleza which left either side with a chance of reaching the next round from Group G.

For Appiah's side, the result all-but revived their hopes of progressing after their opening 2-1 loss to the United States.

"It was a good game. Germany are one of the best teams in the world and we gave it our all," Appiah said after the game in Fortaleza.

"We had some chances but unfortunately if you don’t take them against big teams then you don’t end up winning. We also wasted a few opportunities to equalise against USA, but that’s in the past now."

Mario Goetze had put Germany ahead in the 51st, but Ghana equalized three minutes later through Andre Ayew.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan then put the Black Stars ahead in the 63rd, only to see Miroslav Klose cancel out his goal and rescue a point for the Germans.

"I always had faith because we fight to the end. I believe attack is the best form of defence and that’s what we tried to put into practice. I always believed in my players and that we could win," said the Ghana coach.

Ghana will meet Portugal in the final group match on Thursday in Brasilia.
