Andre Ayew is targeting to help Ghana secure a place at the finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as he leads the Black Stars against Uganda.

The absence of captain Asamoah Gyan due to injury has let in the attacker to strap the armband on when the Black Stars play in Kampala on Saturday in the penultimate Group E qualifier.

Ghana have been impressive a slow start int he qualifying campaign which begun with a 1-1 draw against Uganda at home last September.

Leading the standings on 8 points, a win against Uganda will qualify Ghana for the Nations Cup finals for a sixth successive time since 2006. But the stand-in captain is anticipating a tough game at the Mandela National Stadium.

“Uganda is a good side despite their recent results in the qualifiers but I believe a lot in my [Ghana] team, a victory against them will qualify us to the next Afcon so we will fight for a win,” Ayew said.

“They came to Kumasi to get a point therefore you cannot underrate them, they have some good players and a solid team so we know the threat they possess, but we're determined for victory.”

Ayew who scored the equaliser in the corresponding fixture Uganda says, captaining the side is not something that weighs on his mind.

“With the captain (Gyan) not around, I think what is important is to prepare myself to try and lead the team to get a victory for Ghana. What is important is Ghana and hopefully, we will do our best and bring victory home,” said the Olympique Marseille player.
