Adiyiah wins SWAG gongs

Dominic Adiyiah was yesterday decorated with two prestigious awards at the 35th Sports Writers Association of Ghana Awards Night for the year under review.

The Golden boot and Golden ball award winner in the 2009 World Under 20 Youth Championship beat off competition from 2008 winner John Paintsil and Michael Essien to grab both the Sports Personality of the year and Footballer of the Year Awards for 2009.

The on-loan Reggina striker was not the only football person to have picked up an award on the night.

President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi was presented with the Chairman of the Year prize.

Roda JC player, Eric Addo picked the 'Dedication and Valour' Award.

For his managerial qualities that saw him guide Ghana's U-20 team to lift the historic FIFA Under-20 World Cup, Sellas Tetteh was named the Coach of the Year with the 2009 World Under-20 Champions, the Black Satellites picking the Team of the Year award.

Chairman of the Black Satellites Management Committee, Jordan Anagbla was handed the Special Meritorious Award category.

The domestic league saw Obed Ansah of Accra Hearts of Oak beat Lee Addy, then of Bechem Chelsea and Asante Kotoko's Jordan Opoku to the Premiership Player of the Year award.

Last season's top Glo Premier League top scorer, Alex Asamoah of Asante Kotoko was awarded the Top Scorer prize.

Referee of the year went to Joseph Lamptey.
