Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman is set to open negotiations with Liverpool about the availability of Godwin Antwi this week.

Ghanaian defender Antwi, 19, spent two months on loan at the Fraser Eagle Stadium at the end of last season, making nine League Two appearances, and Coleman is keen to bring the player back to the club for the new campaign.

Reds chairman Eric Whalley told the Lancashire Telegraph: "He'll be talking to Liverpool about taking Godwin on for a full season-long deal."

Meanwhile, Whalley has also confirmed that the club's move for a Scottish defender has stalled until he can prove his fitness.

The unnamed Scottish Premier League player had a hip operation in the close season and was due to travel to Lancashire on Tuesday to finalise a move to Stanley but the deal has now been postponed until next month.

"It's been delayed until he's fit enough to start training," Whalley said. "He hasn't trained since he had his operation so we've put it on hold.

"The physio at the club he's with said he should be alright, but we've already had our fingers burnt before, so we want to make sure he's fit to play."
