As part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the values of fairness and transparency in Ghana football, Group 2 Referees officiating in the Access Bank Division One League recently participated in an intensive integrity training session as part of efforts to uphold the Integrity of the game.

The training targets the prevention of match manipulation, match-fixing, and betting activities by participants of the game. The session is to equip referees with the practical knowledge needed to identify and respond to approaches by syndicates and any form of suspicion.

The training sessions provided a deep dive into understanding the schemes used by persons seeking to influence the outcomes of matches. Referees were educated on the various forms of manipulation they might encounter.

In addition to these insights, referees were introduced to a comprehensive set of reporting channels available to them, ensuring they can confidentially and promptly report any suspicious activities. These mechanisms are designed to protect referees through the whistle blower policy and encourage them to speak up and report any suspicion.

At the end of the session, each referee signed an integrity declaration form, a binding commitment to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct. In signing this declaration, referees pledged to reject any form of influence that could compromise their impartiality and impact the discharge of their duties as their actions have direct impact on the final result of the game.

The focus on integrity reflects a renewed commitment within Ghanaian football to ensure the game remains free from corruption and that every match is conducted fairly.
