The second edition of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship has officially got underway at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, following a colourful ceremonial kick-off on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The opening ceremony marked the beginning of another exciting chapter in Ghana’s youth football development calendar, with the country’s emerging talents set to battle for regional pride while showcasing their abilities on a national platform.
The ceremonial kick-off was led by Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, Chairman of the Planning Committee and Member of Parliament for Ketu North, who was joined by Executive Council member, Samuel Aboabire as well as National Juvenile Committee Chairman, Joe Salam Abubakar.
Also present were Vice-Chairman of the Organising Committee, Enoch Agyare Addo, alongside committee members Samuel Owusu Amoah and Michael Fiaduse, as they joined other officials and stakeholders to witness the commencement of the highly anticipated championship.
The opening ceremony paved the way for the first competitive fixture of the tournament, with the Volta Region set to face the Ashanti Region in the opening encounter in Group.
The action-packed opening day will feature three additional matches, ensuring an exciting start to the 11-day championship.
The other fixture in Group A, will see defending champions Eastern Region begin their title defence against Upper West Region., while Central Region will take on Brong Ahafo Region in a Group B contest.
Meanwhile, Upper East Region will round off the day’s action when they face Northern Region in their opening Group B fixture.
The tournament brings together some of the country’s most promising U-19 footballers, providing them with a competitive environment in which to develop their skills, gain valuable experience and attract attention from scouts and national-team selectors.
