There is no more final berth for Ghana at the African U-17 Championship rather the Black Starlets would contest for bronze.

Ghana’s hopes of a successive appearance in the grand finale was dashed by Togo who rallied back to win the semi-final clash 2-1 in Kegue, Tuesday afternoon.

Ransford Osei put Ghana in the lead before the 15th minute mark in the first half.

Ghana played some good football and managed to hit the crossbar from a Sadick Adams strike. But the Togolese rallied back to tie the game from a beautiful free kick effected by Korodowou Abdou Malick.

Both sides ended the half 1-1.

Togo sealed victory and a place in the finals when the scored the match winner in the second half through substitute, Sodeke Tidjani.

That strike ended the Black Starlets’ quest for a third African U-17 title and Fred Osam Duodu’s hopes of a second successive crown at the same competition.

Ghana, two-time African and World champions now need a win on Sunday to pick bronze in the 3rd place game at the Kegue stadium against Tunisia.

The Black Starlets apart from missing out of a place in the finals have qualified for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup to be hosted by South Korea in August. The other three countries have also qualified.

The final of the two-week championship comes off on March 25.
