GFA to supply 10,000 footballs annually to Colts Clubs for next three seasons

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a historic support package that will see Colts Clubs receive 10,000 footballs every year for the next three seasons, as part of renewed efforts to strengthen grassroots football across the country.

President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku made the announcement at the launch of the 2026/27 Colts Football Season, outlining a comprehensive package designed to provide clubs with the equipment, registration support and technical development opportunities required to sustain and improve grassroots football.

Addressing the gathering at the launch of the 2026/27 Colts Football Season on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, President Okraku announced that each registered Colts Club in good standing will receive 10 footballs every season over the next three years.

The intervention forms part of the Football Association’s broader commitment to ensuring that Colts Clubs have access to the basic resources needed to organise regular training sessions and competitive matches while creating a stronger foundation for the development of young footballers.

The GFA will also continue to provide free player registration and digital licences for up to 90 players per Colts Club, removing a significant administrative and financial burden from clubs and making it easier for young players to participate in organised football.

Beyond equipment and registration support, the Football Association will expand its capacity-building programmes for key grassroots stakeholders, including scouts, referees, administrators and other personnel whose work is essential to the effective running and development of Colts football.

President Okraku also reaffirmed the GFA’s continued investment in footballs for Colts Clubs, noting that, for the third consecutive year, the Association is committing US$100,000 towards the purchase and distribution of footballs to clubs nationwide.

The GFA's investment in grassroots football also extends to coaching development. Over the past two seasons, the GFA has invested GH¢1.8 million to train 600 youth coaches through the GFA-founded CAF Licence D Coaching Programme.

The programme forms part of the GFA’s strategy to improve the quality of coaching available at the grassroots and equip coaches with the knowledge and technical competencies required to identify, develop and guide emerging football talent.
