The Black Maidens' journey at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2026 came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Japan in the quarter-finals at the Mohammed VI Football Complex - Pitch 1.

Coach Joe Nana Adarkwa was forced into two major changes for the crucial tie. Captain Seidatu Wahab missed out through injury with Osman Rafia taking the armband, while Hajara Adam was suspended after her red card against Argentina. Mavis Koah and Kpentey Belinda were handed starts.

After a tightly contested opening half where Ghana's defensive shape, as promised by Coach Adarkwa, frustrated the Asian side, Japan broke the deadlock in the 54th minute. A ricocheted attempt by Yuka Kishida fell kindly into the path of Nanami Kurita close to goal, who made no mistake.

The Black Maidens pushed for an equaliser and showed the same fighting spirit that saw them beat Argentina on penalties in the Round of 16 despite finishing with ten players, but struggled to impose themselves against a disciplined Japanese side who controlled possession.

Despite the defeat, the Black Maidens exit the tournament with their heads high, having reached the quarter-finals and shown resilience throughout the competition. Jessica Appiah, Cynthia Obinsrewuo, Osman Rafia and Belinda Marku Aklie were among the standouts of the campaign.
