Asante named in CAF shortlist for continental award

Solomon Asante has been nominated in a 20-man shortlist for the CAF African Player of the Year award (Based in Africa).

The midfielder who plays for DR Congo side, TP Mazembe is the second Ghanaian to have made the shortlist – Emmanuel Clottey was selected two seasons ago – ever since this category was instituted in 2005.

Asante was instrumental for TP Mazembe in their CAF Champions League campaign which ended at the semi final stage.

CAF has also unveiled a provisional list of 25 names for its main African Player of the Year award which includes Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah.

The winners of both categories will be decided by votes from the head coaches/technical directors of the national associations affiliated to CAF.

The award will be handed out to the deserving winners at a gala ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals on 8 January in Lagos, Nigeria.
