The Black Starlets secured their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU B U17 Championship after recording an impressive 3-1 victory over Benin to register their second consecutive win in the tournament.

Kassim Ocansey’s side made a bright start to the encounter, taking the lead just four minutes into the game through Alidu Issah. The striker demonstrated his sharpness in front of goal to put Ghana ahead and give his side an early advantage.

Issah was on target again just four minutes later, doubling Ghana’s lead in the eighth minute and putting the Black Starlets firmly in control of proceedings. His quick-fire brace handed Ghana a comfortable cushion as they looked to build on their strong start.

Benin, however, remained determined to fight their way back into the contest and managed to reduce the deficit as the match progressed. Ghana maintained their attacking threat and worked to preserve their advantage while looking for opportunities to extend their lead.

Nii Odoi Tawiah restored the Starkets’ 2-goal advantage with an intelligent finish after he was put through by Prince Apam.

The Black Starlets eventually secured a 3-1 victory, with Issah’s two goals proving decisive in another important performance for the Ghanaian youngsters. The win further boosts Ghana’s campaign as they continue their pursuit of qualification for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

The result represents another positive step for Coach Kassim Ocansey and his squad in the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship, which serves as the qualifying competition for the continental tournament. Ghana will now look to maintain their momentum as they pursue a place at the 2027 U17 AFCON.
